Florence Fitzgerald received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to attend the School of American Ballet at the age of 12. Soon after, she moved to New York City to continue her dance and academic studies and train daily at SAB. Florence then joined The New York City Ballet in 1979.  One of her greatest honors was being chosen personally by Mr. Balanchine, Artistic Director of The New York City Ballet, to be among the last generation to work directly for him. Under the direction of Mr. Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins, her professional career spanned eleven years. Other highlights include performing at the White House, touring extensively through Europe, Asia, and the United States, performing in a feature film and performing "Live from Studio 8-H", an ABC Special evening.
