Duke senior pitcher, Mitch Stallings '14, pitched seven complete innings in an 8-4 win over ninth-ranked Georgia in Athens, advancing the Blue Devils (44-16) to the NCAA Super Regionals. The Blue Devils will next face Texas Tech, in Lubbock, TX. The win ended the Bulldogs' season at 39-21.
Stallings earned the win by scattering seven hits, allowing three earned runs, and striking out six batters. Former Lion teammate, Bulldog star, Aaron Schunk '16, was two-for-four in the game, driving in one of Georgia's runs.
"Mitch (Stallings) is one of the best pitchers in the history of this program," Duke coach Chris Pollard said. "He has pitched big innings for us since he first walked on campus as a freshman, but the last four weeks have been really hard. He has been able to grind his way through it and gave us the biggest start of his career and the biggest start in the history of the program."
