Girls from public and private middle schools are encouraged to submit drawings of plants and animals native to Georgia for the chance to have their artwork permanently displayed on Path400.
In a society that moves so fast, it’s refreshing to stop and take a walk, especially when that walk is on one of Atlanta’s great urban trails. One of these trails, Path400, is part of a multi-phase construction plan with the latest stretch (from Lenox Square to Miami Circle) having opened to the public in the fall of 2019.
As a member of Lovett’s Girl Scout troop 11461, I had the great honor a few years ago of becoming part of Path400. In 2015, I won an art contest sponsored by the organization Livable Buckhead where my design was permanently installed in an exhibit along the first segment of Path400.
While contemplating ideas to achieve my Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award available to Girl Scouts, I remembered how exciting it was for me to have my artwork become a part of the Buckhead community. I reached out to Livable Buckhead to see if I could sponsor a new art project for the latest phase of Path400. Livable Buckhead thought it was a great idea and plans were put into place to use student artwork for murals along Path400.
For my Gold Award, I am currently running an art contest with Livable Buckhead for middle school girls (grades 6, 7, and 8) in Atlanta. Girls from public and private middle schools are encouraged to submit drawings of plants and animals native to Georgia for the chance to have their artwork permanently displayed on Path400.
Submissions for the contest are being accepted until March 12, 2020. Selected finalists will be invited to an event on March 29th where they will recreate their designs in chalk along Path400 for judging. Five winners will be chosen for murals to be installed at a later date.
I welcome your support in a few ways. If you are a middle school-aged girl, consider participating in the contest! If you are the parent of a middle school-aged girl, please encourage your daughter to get involved. You can also forward the link below to your friends and neighbors since the contest is open to all middle school-aged girls in the city of Atlanta.
Finally, I would love to see you at the event! One of the winning designs will be chosen by people visiting Path400 that afternoon (voting will take place on 3/29/20 between 2:00pm-2:30pm ).
So take a break from the fast lane that day and enjoy a walk on this great new part of Path400. I look forward to seeing you there and counting the vote on your favorite design!
