Riverbank Round-up of Winter Varsity Sports

As the winter 2021-22 athletic season draws to a close, we would like to highlight the stand-out accomplishments of our varsity teams.

Lovett Wrestling had quite the season with five Sectional Champions, thirteen State Qualifiers, and four State Champions! In addition, the team brought home the Buckhead Belt with a 3-0 tournament win and became the State Duals Champions for the first time since 2003. Cael Kusky, Parker Coy, Chris Mance, and Christian Bell all won the State Championships in their individual weight classes; while Alex Hyman, Nicholas Moffett, and William Stimmel were State Runner-Ups allowing Lovett to secure the Traditional State Championship!

Girls Basketball had a great season with an overall record of 18-11 and a scorching seven game winning streak! Senior Allie Ohde was named First Team All-Region, and sophomore Kayleigh Stargell was named to the Third Team. It was Ohde’s third straight year receiving first team recognition! Also this season, Ohde surpassed 1,000 points for her career. Congratulations on the season, Girls Basketball!

Kudos to Boys Basketball for entering the state playoffs ranked as the #3 team from Region 6! This season saw sophomore Christian Anderson Jr. surpass 1,000 career points and be recognized in the top 10 in the nation by scoring an average 32 points per game! Christian Anderson Jr. earned First Team honors and junior Kyle Walters earned Second Team honors. Way to go, Boys Basketball! 

Swimming & Diving set a program record with 20 State individual qualifiers this year! Congratulations to the team on an amazing season! Lovett finished 6th overall in 1-3A at the GHSA State Championships. Way to go LionFish!

Congratulations to the Lovett Varsity Equestrian Team, which recently competed in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Regionals at The Georgia International Horse Park. Lovett riders competed against 13 other teams to qualify for Zones later this month. Senior & Team Captain Campbell Key and junior Mary Grace Samp represented the Lions.

The Lovett School is an independent, coeducational day school where children from Kindergarten through Grade 12 find the courage to explore and the drive to discover.
