A Riverbank Round-Up on Winter Varsity Sports

As the 2020-21 winter athletic season draws to a close, we would like to highlight some of the stand-out accomplishments of our varsity winter sports teams.

Varsity Basketball had several members receive All-Region Honors. On the girls team, Allie Ohde ‘22 was named to the 1st Team and Allie Steel ‘24 to the 3rd. On the boys team, Ryan Mutombo ‘21 was named to the 1st Team, Christian Anderson ‘24 to the 3rd Team, and Jay Joshi ‘21recived an honorable mention. Another highlight of the season was senior Ryan Mutombo hitting a milestone of 1500 career points! Both boys and girls basketball teams have qualified for the state tournament beginning Tuesday, February 23 - tune into the Lovett Athletics Instagram and Twitter for updates @lovettathletics.

Varsity Swimming: The girls team took 3rd place from the 1A-3A State Championship (& top school in 2A!) - this was the first appearance on the podium for the girls team since 1997! Boys Swimming took 6th place in 1A-3A State Championship, which was the highest point total in the team’s history. Another high-point from the season was that Senior Harrison Clifton broke a school diving record with a score of 424.70, smashing the previous record of 335.30 set in 2016!

Varsity Wrestling had a greatly successful 2020-21 season by clinching several team accolades:  AA State Traditional Wrestling Team Runner-Up, AA State Duals 3rd Place, Area Traditional Champions, and Area Duals Champions. Individual results from the GHSA State Traditional: Alex Hyman, State Runner-up; Josh Robinson, State Runner-up, Parker Coy, State Champion; Al Coy, State Runner-up; Nick Moffett, 5th State; Christian Bell, 4th State; Wells Kamerschen, 3rd State; and Jake Kennedy, Logan Lutz, Garrett Roesel, Luke Graham, MJ Greentree, Finn Bresnahan were all State Qualifiers and won at least 1 match. Kudos to Lovett wrestlers on a fantastic season!

Congratulations to all of the winter sports teams for overcoming and accomplishing much during such a unique season. Every achievement is a testament to each member of the team and coaching staff’s determination and perseverance.
