Lovett Softball is thrilled to announce two recent additions to the school staff that will allow us to capture the momentum of the softball program’s 2019 playoff run and build on it for the future.
Perelini (Lini) Bush has been hired to be the next head coach of Lovett Softball. Coach Bush has an impressive resume as both an athlete and a coach. A standout player for the University of Arizona softball program under legendary head coach Mike Candrea, Coach Bush played on the 2010 Women’s College World Series runners up and also appeared in the 2009 Women’s College World Series. She was recognized as Pac 12 Honorable mention twice in her career and was also awarded Pac 12 Player of the week. Her 61 home runs in college are good enough for 6th place all-time for the Wildcats.

Coach Bush has extensive experience in the dugout as well.  She was the head coach at East Lake High School in Chula Vista, California, and has been a college assistant at both Emory and California Lutheran Universities. She has also directed the Champions College Softball Showcase Tournament and the AIGA Foundation’s Annual Polynesian Softball Clinic.

“I am excited to finally be apart of the Lovett family" said Coach Bush. "I look forward to meeting our players, staff, and administrators as the days and weeks come. The goal is to get one percent better in all that we do. In order for us to reach that we must never let fear sway us away from the goal. Embrace the fear so that you may grow in every part of the process. We will be fearless!"

Coach Bush will join the administrative support team in the Middle School.

Lovett is also thrilled to announce that current assistant coach Layne McLaughlin (nee McDermond)  is also joining the Lion family fulltime as a co-teacher in the Lower School. Coach McLaughlin is entering her third year as an assistant coach at Lovett where she has focused primarily on the pitchers and catchers and coaching first base.  She has also coached at her alma mater, Thomas County Central and she has twice been part of teams advancing to the state’s elite eight.  Coach McDermond is a Georgia graduate who played collegiate softball at Santa Fe College.

In addition, assistant coach Jessica Williams returns for her second season with the Lions as well.

The Lovett School is an independent, coeducational day school where children from Kindergarten through Grade 12 find the courage to explore and the drive to discover.
