Dear Lovett Alumni,
As I walked from the Alumni Office to my car last week, the effect of COVID-19 on Lovett’s campus was profound. Absent was the laughter of students gathered at day's end. No one chased soccer balls over the Riverbank’s beautifully manicureCd fields. Without young admirers peering from the bridge, two lonesome ducks quietly paddled the pond.
Yet, the stillness belied the herculean efforts of our faculty, staff, and leadership whose strategy for the continuity of Lovett - as a school and community - was already at work. Google Meet became the face-to-face connection between students and teachers. Webinars for parents rolled out via Zoom. Chaplains prepared homilies to shepherd their flock from afar. P.E. teachers crafted home workouts and arts teachers sent home apprentices with supplies.
For our devoted alumni family, Head of School Meredyth Cole has prepared the above video message with stories of Lovett’s journey to distance learning, as well as her warmest wishes of good health to you and yours. Should you want to learn more about Lovett’s ongoing response to COVID-19, visit our dedicated webpage for this purpose: https://www.lovett.org/about/coronavirus-communications
Your Alumni Office is actively collaborating with the Alumni Executive Board and its President, Thaddeus Rolle ’04, to implement new strategies to keep Lovett’s alumni family connected. One clear reality is that all spring alumni events have been affected, thus these changes:
- 50th+ Reunions and Golden Lions Gala: Rescheduled to September 11-12.
- 10th - 45th Spring Reunion Weekend: Rescheduled to the fall with the 15th - 45th Reunions on Homecoming Weekend, October 2-3. The 10th Reunion is on Saturday, November 28 - the same evening as the 5th Reunion.
- 28th Annual Run ’n Lovett: Canceled. Lovett is refunding registrations.
To buoy morale and connection in our community, social media will see an uptick. To join in the fun, use #loveditatlovett, tag Lovett Alums on Facebook, and follow the social media outlets which are linked below my signature line.
On a more serious note, a hallmark of our Lovett Alumni Family is how it supports one another, especially in times of need. May each member now redouble their efforts to lend helping hands to fellow alumni struggling in this uncharted territory of COVID-19. After all, “The strength of the Pride is the Lion and the strength of the Lion is its Pride.”Above all else, it is Lovett’s great hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy. Do not hesitate to reach out to the alumni office or your alumni board members if we might be of service to you. Please also send along your ideas to keep our alumni family inspired and connected. Since we are working remotely, please contact us at email@example.com.
