Ted Gilbreath named Interim Athletics Director
Ted Gilbreath has joined The Lovett School as Interim Athletics Director for the 2019-20 school year, effective July 1. A 20-year veteran of independent schools as a highly effective athletics administrator, history and art teacher, and accomplished lacrosse coach, Gilbreath comes to Lovett from his most recent role at Newark Academy in New Jersey, where he served as Director of Athletics for seven years.
Although Gilbreath arrived at Lovett during the quiet of summer, he’s excited about the year ahead and overseeing athletics on the Riverbank. “I’m thrilled to be joining an athletic department with such a rich tradition of competitive excellence,” said Gilbreath. “I am eager to begin working with our coaches and student athletes to create an environment that honors Lovett's commitment to educating the whole child and maximizes opportunities for students to realize their full potential.”
Gilbreath received his B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern Maine.
Virginia Seiler named Varsity Girls Soccer Coach
Virginia Seiler ’11 has been named Head Coach of Lovett’s varsity girls soccer team, a role that includes oversight of the entire girls soccer program for grades 7-12. A Lovett alumna and current Lower School teacher, Seiler served as assistant coach for JV girls soccer for two seasons, leading the team to a very successful record of 14 wins and two losses. Since returning to her alma mater in 2017, Seiler has taught 5th grade and served as the head coach for 8th grade girls basketball.
As a member of Lovett’s varsity girls soccer program from 2008-2011, she was an integral player on teams that went to the state tournament all four years, reaching the state final twice and semifinal once. Seiler went on to play college ball at Ole Miss, where she received her degree in Elementary Education.
Seiler looks forward to leading the program that helped shaped her as a player. “I am so excited to lead a program that played such a big part of my life in my high school years,” said Seiler. “I created so many memories that I will cherish forever as a player, and I cannot wait to create more as a coach in the same program.”
Michelle Pope named Sports Information Manager
After serving two years as Sports Information Assistant, Michelle Pope has been named Sports Information Manager effective July 1. As an assistant to the Sports Information Director, Pope spent the last two years growing the Lovett Athletics social media presence and assisting with the Lovett Network football broadcasts on Friday nights. She also served as the head coach for Middle School girls soccer for four years and the bookkeeper for varsity boys and girls basketball.
