Faculty Spotlight: Ashley Schick

In late June, Upper School visual arts teacher Ashley Schick presented at the 2018 American Library Association (ALA) annual conference.

Alongside Georgia Tech librarian Alison Valk and Georgia College & State University Writing Center Director Joy Bracewell, Ashley facilitated a session titled, “Diversifying Educational Programming through Partnerships with the Arts: 'STEAMing up STEM.’” The presentation was based on work at Georgia Tech in the Communication Through Art program, a collaborative effort between the library and local artists (like Ashley), which facilitates the creation of visual arts projects that nurture student creativity and student-faculty interaction in the classroom.

At Lovett, too, Ashley and her fellow teachers in the fine arts work closely with teachers in the academic disciplines to bridge the perceived gap between the arts and academics. You can learn more about some of Lovett’s arts integration projects on the Sam Flax Program website and on Lovett’s Vision for Learning page of the website.

The Lovett School is an independent, coeducational day school where children from Kindergarten through Grade 12 find the courage to explore and the drive to discover.
