In Lower School, we believe every child deserves a strong foundation for life's journey. Our school counselors work hand-in-hand with students and families from their very first days at Lovett, meeting them in classrooms to explore big topics like friendship, feelings, and problem-solving through age-appropriate guidance lessons. When a kindergartner struggles with sharing or a third-grader faces friendship challenges, we gather small groups to practice skills together—learning to navigate peer relationships, build self-esteem, and manage emotions in a safe, supportive space. For children facing bigger challenges like family changes, grief, or anxiety, we provide individual counseling that meets them exactly where they are. Throughout it all, we partner closely with families and faculty, ensuring every adult in a child's world is equipped to help them grow into confident, caring, and capable young people ready for whatever comes next.

Navigating the Middle School Journey Together

Middle school is a time of tremendous growth, discovery, and change—and we're here to guide students through every step. Through classroom guidance lessons, we tackle the topics that matter most to adolescents: building healthy friendships, communicating effectively, managing stress, developing positive body image, and learning to help others. Each grade receives developmentally appropriate support as students navigate increasingly complex social and emotional landscapes. When challenges arise, we provide individual counseling and targeted small groups, ensuring no student faces their struggles alone. Our advisory program pairs every student with a caring faculty mentor who knows them well and advocates for their success, while our partnerships with families create a strong support network that extends from school to home. Together, we help middle schoolers build the resilience and confidence they need to thrive during these pivotal years and beyond.

Preparing for Adulthood with Confidence

Upper School is where students blossom from adolescents into young adults, and our counselors are honored to walk alongside them through each milestone of this incredible journey. We wrap our arms around ninth graders as they adjust to new freedoms and responsibilities, celebrate with sophomores and juniors as they discover who they're becoming, and cheer on seniors as they prepare to spread their wings beyond Lovett. Through individual counseling, meaningful workshops, and classroom conversations, we support students through the beautiful complexity of these formative years—from managing stress and making tough decisions to building authentic relationships and discovering their unique gifts. Our student-led Peer Assistance and Leadership program creates a family-like community where upperclassmen lovingly mentor underclassmen, fostering connections and belonging across all grade levels. When students need additional support, we thoughtfully connect families with trusted community professionals. By graduation, our students don't just leave with diplomas—they carry with them the confidence, compassion, and life skills to flourish as remarkable young adults ready to make their mark on the world.
