Message from Lovett Strategic Design Process Co-chairs


Dear Lovett Community,

At yesterday’s Board of Trustees meeting, Lovett launched a Strategic Design Process with the help of our consultants, Greenwich Leadership Partners. We begin this important effort to chart our course and build a road map for the future of our school.  As our founder Eva Lovett reminds us, a transformative education “keeps an appraising eye on itself and an alert eye on the times.”

Over the course of the next nine months, we will move through a series of steps to develop a succinct and compelling vision and strategy for our school. This process will include assembling teams made of various Lovett stakeholders to examine the opportunities and realities related to the success and future of our school.  Through a community-wide survey, focus groups, and deep conversations, we will discover what matters most at Lovett and begin to surface solutions so the school can continue to best meet the needs of our students for years to come.

The Lovett Board of Trustees is responsible for adopting the vision and fundamental commitments that will define our strategy. The Board will be supported by a Strategic Design Team (SDT), made up of trustees, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, and recently graduated students, which will facilitate the process and ensure all stakeholders are represented. The responsibilities of the SDT include forming Learning Teams to dig deep into questions that will inform the future of the school, synthesizing the data collected, integrating new insights into the strategy, and building consensus for execution.

The SDT and Learning Teams will begin with the four themes for inquiry that have emerged thus far. All of these topics will be considered through the lens of the student experience: exploring school size and composition, exploring Lovett’s core identity and values, exploring Lovett’s assets, and exploring community engagement at Lovett. While these are not the only topics we’ll address in this process, the Board and SDT consider these areas to be of critical significance as we lay the groundwork for our collective future. 

An invitation to participate in a community-wide survey will be forthcoming this fall, and we need everyone to share their experiences and aspirations with us. Students in grades 6 through 12 will take the survey, and even our youngest learners will provide insights and feedback - ensuring that the final end-product is truly the work of our entire community.  Please take this opportunity to engage in the Strategic Design Process as your insight and perspective are essential to this work.
