Lovett Celebrates Completion of New 380-Space Parking Deck

The Lovett School officially unveiled a significant addition to its campus infrastructure with the completion of a state-of-the-art 380-space parking deck. This milestone represents a major step forward in the school’s commitment to enhancing both the daily experience for students, faculty, and visitors, as well as the overall sustainability of the campus.

The parking deck, which replaces a previous parking lot in the same location, increases the school’s parking capacity by more than 225 spaces, all within nearly the same footprint. The design also allows for the conversion of other campus surface parking areas into greenspaces, further contributing to the school’s environmental goals.

“This is more than just a parking deck—it’s a commitment to improving campus life for our entire community,” said Gray Kelly, Chief Operating Officer. “We listened to the needs of our community and acted to reduce the stress and inefficiencies that parking challenges were causing.”

The deck features dual entrance and exit lanes, which improve traffic flow around the Paces Ferry entrance. A dedicated lane for entry to the parking deck helps streamline the morning drop-off and increase efficiency for parent pickups. Furthermore, the carpool lanes remain unchanged to maintain a smooth flow for parents and students during arrival and dismissal.

In addition to its practical benefits, the project has also enhanced the school’s sustainability efforts. The new deck reduces impervious surface area on campus, allowing stormwater to be treated before it flows into the Chattahoochee River. Lovett’s campus is also seeing a significant increase in tree coverage, as the project includes additional plantings in the Dell and other campus areas, increasing the total number of trees on Lovett’s developed campus to the most tree coverage in its history.

“Slowing and treating stormwater runoff contributes to the overall health of the Chattahoochee River,” Kelly explained. “The landscaping and increased tree canopy are just one part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.”

Another key advantage of the new deck is the improvement in pedestrian safety. With the addition of new sidewalks and crosswalks and the reduced need for cars to circulate the campus in search of parking spaces, Lovett is now a safer environment for both pedestrians and drivers.

While the project represents a substantial investment by the School, the long-term benefits are clear. “This deck will transform daily life on campus,” said Meredyth Cole, Head of School. “It will reduce the daily stress of parking for teachers, students, parents, and visitors, allowing everyone to focus on what matters most.”

The parking deck is open to the community on a first-come, first-served basis, with all 380 spaces now available. The new infrastructure has already made a significant impact on campus operations, marking a crucial step in Lovett’s ongoing growth and dedication to enhancing the experience for everyone in the community.
