Newly Established Faculty Chorus Performs With Students

The Lovett community was treated to an unexpected musical moment when members of the HR department, Upper School English teachers, and Lower School math teachers stood shoulder to shoulder with students to sing during chapel. Their performance marked the debut of the Lovett Faculty Chorus, a group formed in Spring 2025 by Choral Program Director Ms. Ulrich with the goal of building community through song. What began as a simple lunchtime conversation about how many faculty members had previous choral experience quickly grew into an enthusiastic group of dozens of interested singers, a number that continued to rise with the start of the new school year.

Rehearsals—brief, lighthearted, and filled with laughter—brought together faculty from all divisions, many of whom had never sung together before. The chorus rehearsed just three times before its Nov. 10 chapel performance, where 25 faculty and staff members joined the 41 Honors Singers to perform I Choose Love, a piece centered on choosing peace and compassion. The experience revealed both strong musical talent within the group and a shared eagerness to take on more challenging music in the future.

Students also embraced the collaboration, noting how meaningful it was to perform alongside teachers who share their passion for music. While Ms. Ulrich emphasizes that her primary goal is simply gathering people to sing, both students and faculty hope for future performances together. For her, the chorus is ultimately about connection: teachers and staff sharing joy, supporting one another, and creating moments that strengthen the Lovett community.
