For more than 50 years, the Lovett community has participated in a school-wide holiday service project. This year, Lovett students, families, and friends donated hundreds of toys, winter clothes, and gift cards to children in some of Atlanta’s underserved neighborhoods.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, members of the delivered the presents to Upper School Vestry delivered the presents to Agape Youth and Family Center, an organization that serves hundreds of school-age children by providing a variety of programs to help end generational poverty. The donations from Lovett will go to Agape’s Holiday Gift Store Toy and Wear Drive, which aims to make the holidays brighter for Atlanta families.
“Lovett has a wonderful opportunity to be a force for good in communities beyond the Riverbank,” said Reverend Colin Brown, Lovett’s Head Chaplain. ”Partnerships with organizations like Agape and others that serve low-wealth and marginalized communities in Atlanta give our students a wider and more complete view of the world around them. At the same time, these partnerships offer the organizations and the people whom they serve the opportunity to benefit from the kindness and talents of our wonderful students!”
Lovett has a longstanding relationship with Agape. Since 2008, Middle and Upper School students have visited Agape multiple times per semester to tutor elementary school students and help them with their homework.
"Volunteers, like the students who serve from Lovett, help our families see and feel the hearts of our supporters in everything they experience at Agape," said Shannon Doyle Bell, Communications Manager at Agape. "Our team works hard to make it easy for volunteers and donors to use their resources and talents to impact the lives of our families."
If you want to participate in the Drive, you can make a donation via this link ahead of Agape’s annual Holiday Gift Store on Thursday, Dec. 19.
