Lovett Continues Long-Running Student Exchange With Australian Partner Schools

The Lovett School has wrapped up another successful year of its international exchange program with partner schools in Sydney, Australia: Ascham School and Cranbrook School. Now in its 13th year with Ascham and its second year with Cranbrook, the exchange once again provided transformative cultural and educational experiences for students on both sides of the globe.

Four Lovett juniors—Quade ’27, Trey ’27, Amelia ’27, and Mary ’27—participated in this year’s program. After spending a month in Sydney during Summer 2025, where they attended classes and lived with their Australian partner students, the Lovett students welcomed their counterparts to Atlanta for a four-week visit in November 2025.

During their time on campus, the Australian students immersed themselves in the Lovett community, attending classes, joining school activities, and experiencing daily life in Atlanta. To kick off their four-week stay, Lovett Head of School Meredyth Cole hosted a lunch for the visiting students and their Lovett hosts. Another highlight of the visit included heartwarming moments with younger students, such as reading sessions with Lovett kindergarteners.

Students typically apply to the program in the fall of their sophomore year, travel to Australia the summer after their 10th-grade year, and host their partners during their junior year. While abroad and during the reciprocal visit, students attended classes and completed assignments at their host schools. Although no grades were issued, the exchange focused on cultural immersion, global awareness, and building lasting international friendships.

“This program is all about helping students build intercultural skills and form lifelong connections,” said Fran Turner, Lovett’s Director of Civic and Global Engagement. “Every year, we see students return with a deeper understanding of the world and a genuine bond with their partner families.”

Interest in the opportunity continues to grow; in 2026, Lovett anticipates sending five girls to Ascham and two boys to Cranbrook.
