Cheryl Weaver Named Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Lovett

The Lovett School is thrilled to welcome Cheryl Weaver as the new Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and Program Director. A decorated coach and former professional athlete, Coach Weaver brings a legacy of excellence, player development, and championship culture to Lovett's thriving athletics program.

Coach Weaver joins Lovett from The Bullis School in Maryland, where she founded the girls volleyball program in 2016. In under a decade, she grew the program from the ground up—building varsity, junior varsity, and middle school teams—and led them to unprecedented heights. Most recently, her 2024 varsity team captured the Independent School League AA Championship, earned the #1 ranking in the D.C./Maryland/Virginia region by The Washington Post, and was named one of the top 30 teams nationally by USA Today.

“I am beyond excited to join the Lovett community as the head volleyball coach,” said Cheryl Weaver. “Lovett has a strong tradition of academic excellence and athletic success, and I can’t wait to be part of its welcoming, caring, and inclusive environment. I look forward to adding to this legacy with my passion, leadership, and program-building experience.”

Coach Weaver was honored as the 2024 AVCA High School Region 2 Coach of the Year. She has coached numerous AVCA All-Region and All-American athletes, and several of her players have gone on to compete at the collegiate and national levels, including selections for the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program.

“We launched a national search with one goal in mind: to find a coach who could not only elevate our volleyball program but also invest deeply in the growth of our student-athletes. From the moment we connected with Cheryl, it was clear she is that person,” said Roney Eford, Director of Athletics at The Lovett School. “Cheryl brings a championship pedigree, a student-centered mindset, and a passion for building community through sport. We are beyond thrilled to welcome her to Lovett.”

A champion of holistic player development, Coach Weaver is known not only for her technical skill and strategic acumen but for her ability to build team cultures rooted in confidence, resilience, and trust.

Prior to coaching, Weaver was a standout collegiate and professional volleyball player. A three-time First-Team AVCA All-American and two-time Big West Conference Player of the Year at Long Beach State University, she helped lead her team to a national championship and spent over a decade competing professionally and with the USA National Team.

Coach Weaver will begin her role at Lovett this spring, working closely with our student-athletes to prepare for the 2025 season.
