Annual Lionbackers Golf Tournament a Hole-in-One for Lovett Athletics

Annual Lionbackers Golf Tournament a Hole-in-One for Lovett Athletics

The Lovett Lionbackers recently hosted its highly anticipated annual Lionbackers Golf Tournament. The event, held on October 20, 2025, was a success for the Lionbackers and Lovett Athletics Department. This year’s winners were Kenny Edmundson, Chuck Harmon, Alex Krema, and Rusty Daniel.

Lionbackers President, Catherine Diffley, spoke about the success of the event saying, “The golf tournament is the premier fundraiser for Lionbackers. We are so appreciative of our corporate sponsors and individual players who make this a successful sell-out every year. Because of the funds raised through the work of chairs Bobby Mitchell and Ken Snuggs, Lionbackers is able to support Lovett athletics in substantial ways.”

The Lionbacker Golf Tournament plays an integral role in supporting both our coaches and student-athletes. This year’s tournament will enable the athletic department to purchase new athletic equipment and uniforms across multiple sports and invest in state-of-the-art technology for sports live streaming and athletic training.

Additionally, the Lionbacker Golf Tournament provides access to resources as Lovett expands its sports offerings such as this year’s addition of Esports, flag football, and competition cheer this fall. The tournament also brings in outstanding guest speakers to develop our coaches and student-athletes during the school year. During the 2024-2025 school year, Lovett coaches and students heard from industry leaders such as Tucker Frawley of the New York Mets, who discussed coaching culture, Cherie Knight-Battery from Arise, who talked to student athletes about the recruiting process, and Leah Thomas, Georgia Tech’s Associate Athletic Director for Sports Nutrition, who talked to student athletes about nutrition.

Lovett Athletic Director Roney Eford reflected on the event and the Lionbackers' impact, saying, “We extend our sincere gratitude to our Golf Tournament Chairs, Ken Suggs and Bobby Mitchell, as well as our Lionbacker President Mr. and Mrs. Diffley and Vice Presidents Mr. and Mrs. Christian for their leadership, generosity, and unwavering support.”

The Lovett Lionbackers are essential to the success of Lovett athletic programs through their "fun raising" and fundraising initiatives. Through memberships, concessions, and the annual Golf and Tennis Tournaments, the LionBackers financially support areas of athletics and physical education not covered by the school budget. The Lionbackers are not exclusive to athletic families, and invite all families to get involved in building the future of the Lovett Athletics and Physical Education programs. Lovett families can join the Lionbackers here!
