Travel program and experiential education scholarship funds
The
following scholarship funds are available to Lovett students who want
to extend their education outside the walls of the traditional
classroom. Each fund has its
own purpose and provides either need-based or non-need based support to students
seeking to travel abroad, study the humanities, or conduct an ambitious
Senior Project. The dollar amount
available from each fund is limited, and varies from fund to fund.
The
Tommy Aldredge '74 Scholarship Program
This fund, established as a memorial to Tommy Aldredge '74 through
the generosity of his family and friends, originally helped a qualified
student from a foreign country participate in one school year at Lovett.
In 2000, after consultation with the Aldredge Family, the purpose of the
scholarship was changed to support outstanding Lovett students' summer
travels abroad. The travels must be educational in nature and the funds
are reserved for
those with some financial need. Tommy's strong interest in education and
his love of travel make this a fitting memorial.

The
Catharine Louis Lovell '66 Student Grant Program
Established in October 2003, The Lovell Fund allows the school to offer
grants designed to reward and support current Upper School students who
demonstrate good character, academic curiosity, and a passion for the
liberal arts. The awards were created for the pursuit of one or more
avenues of liberal arts endeavors by providing financial support for
opportunities such as travel-study programs, intensive study, and
independent study. This award
was designed as a one-time award and bears the obligation/responsibility
of a public presentation to the Upper School or other appropriate group.
The Catharine Louis Lovell '66 Student Grant Fund will serve to further many
of the most important goals and traditions of a Lovett
education--character, academic curiosity, life-long learning, and
hands-on learning.

Siempre
Verde Scholarship Program
Siempre Verde Scholarships are provided each year and are available to
Middle and Upper School students who wish to travel to Lovett's
cloudforest property, Siempre Verde. Preference
will be given to students receiving regular, school-year, tuition aid, but
the committee will consider students not currently receiving tuition
assistance, but who have demonstrated need. This scholarship furthers the most important goals and traditions
of a Lovett education--pursuing one's passion, academic curiosity,
life-long learning, and hands-on learning. These funds will be available
again for Summer 2008 travel.

The
Daniel J. Toohey '99 Senior Project & Creativity Fellowship Grant
Program
The Toohey Fund was designed to help 12th grade students who pursue
special and creative interests through the Senior Project and the
Creativity Fellowship programs. The support may include, but is not
limited to, travel, supplies, and research materials that enable the
student to fully implement the plan of independent study. This special
funding will benefit talented and deserving individuals and, by extension,
the school as a whole. It will
promote The Lovett School's goals of creativity, pursuing one's passion,
academic curiosity, life-long learning, and hands-on learning.
