Information technology Lovett strives to prepare well-rounded students who will be leaders in our ever-changing society; using technology appropriately is a component of that goal. While computers and the Internet are not effective or appropriate in every educational situation, technology does serve as a resource through which students can discover, investigate, and solve problems. Students must be able to determine when to use technology, and then have the skills and resources to do so. The Lovett School technology program is designed to develop such discrimination and provide those resources. The school supports more than 500 computers dispersed in classrooms, two libraries, and nine computer labs, as well as numerous laptops. One of the nine computer labs is incorporated into a foreign language multimedia lab. All are connected to Lovett's campus-wide network, often through wireless access. These machines and the supporting peripherals allow students at all grade levels to utilize technology in their daily learning. A computing curriculum of skills and applications guides instruction and project planning. A large technology center features four computer labs for use by all Lovett students. These state-of-the-art labs are open before and after school to allow students constant access. An extensive library website, through which students and faculty can access the library holdings and other text-based resources, enhances the research process by allowing students to start work outside of the library. Lovett employs six full-time technology staff members. These educators--in combination with library staff and classroom faculty with impressive computing knowledge--work with the classes and individual students and teachers who utilize resources on a daily basis. Technology staff also help students understand and appreciate Lovett's Technology Code of Conduct, signed by all students, as well as work on keyboarding instruction and technology orientations.
