Academic Resource Center Summer Programs 2007

This summer, four programs will be available through the Academic Resource Center.

For rising sixth graders:
"StudyBuddies Live," led by Kathy Kalnin and Lee Ann Emerson, emphasizes review and reinforcement of basic skills in English, math, social studies, and science. Students will have an introduction to the Middle School format and the opportunity to preview textbooks. The three separate sessions will go from 9:00 am to noon each day during the weeks of July 16-20, July 23-27, and July 30-August 3. Download registration form.

For rising seventh and eighth graders:
Joni Janis leads students in "Study Skills for Success" during the week of July 30-August 2. Students will explore strategies to strengthen reading, note taking, test-taking, and organizational skills. Students will be grouped by grade level and limited to six in each group. Sessions will be held for one and one half hours each day. Download registration form.

For rising ninth graders:
Stacie Penland and Alice Empie will conduct "Fundamentals for Freshmen." Targeted areas will be reading comprehension, grammar, math review, and study skills. Students will receive tips on the differences they will find transitioning to Upper School. Two separate sessions will run from July 23-27, and again from July 30-August 3; sessions will run from 9:00 am to noon each day. Download registration form.

Speed Ahead one-on-one tutoring:
Students can receive individual tutoring in specific academic areas, as well as in study skills or in applying learning styles. Tutoring is available in most academic subjects, including composition skills, math skills, language arts/English, reading comprehension, science, and some foreign language. The program runs from Monday, June 11, to Friday, August 3, on the Lovett campus.
Parents should contact Marcia Sisson (see below) to register.
