Carpooling & Walk to School Days
Lovett’s website features a carpool finder that allows parents to search the parent/student directory online and to map and contact other potential carpooling students.

Lovett will also host four Walk to School Days during the 2011-12 school year where families and students are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to school. The remaining Walk to School Days for the 2011-12 school year are on February 10 and April 13.

Wind Turbine
Lovett's Physical Plant has installed a wind turbine to generate electricity on campus. Power generated is pumped back into the utility grid with the intent of offsetting consumption of our electric utility vehicles. In time, plans are to replace all gasoline powered Gator utility vehicles with electric units. The turbine is manufactured by Skystream of Flagstaff Arizona and will produce 200-400 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of power per month with an average of 8-12 mph of wind. Historic data will be collected to track power production of the turbine for classroom purposes.

By The Numbers

  •  At the first Walk to School Day of 2011-12, more than 375 students walked and 671 carpooled, resulting in a 34 percent reduction in the number of cars on campus.
  • Production of 200-400 kWh of power per month by Lovett's wind turbine will avoid 1.62-3.24 tons of CO2 annually.
