Parent Organizations
The Lovett School provides many opportunities for parents to help the school, as well as to network and build community with one another. We look forward to working with you, and we thank you for your support!
Friends of the Arts
Friends of the Arts support the fine arts by fostering an awareness of the
arts as a form of self-expression and providing opportunities for students
to learn of the many ways the arts can serve as a profession. In addition,
Friends of the Arts support the faculty and staff of the fine arts
department, recognize student and faculty achievements, develop sources of
funds for supplementing the arts, and promote a cohesive fine arts community
within The Lovett School. The leadership of Friends of the Arts is slated
through a self-nomination process in May and serve for a one-year term.
Annual membership donations range from $75 to $250.
LionBackers
The LionBackers financially assist all areas of athletics and
physical education through membership dues and the annual golf and tennis
tournaments.
It is the intent of the LionBackers to provide funds for athletic needs not typically covered by the school budget.
In addition to helping fund the specific needs of the various athletic
programs, the LionBackers are an integral part of the ongoing goal to
increase spirit within the school community. Throughout the year the
LionBackers host various events that help promote attendance and/or
demonstrate support for the 23 varsity teams. The organization keeps its
members informed through a weekly e-mail newsletter that lists upcoming sporting
events and reports results and highlights of previous contests. The
LionBackers welcome participation from the school community through its
spirit committees, which provide assistance for special activities
throughout the year. Leadership
of the organization consists of four co-officers:
president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer, and sports chairman. Annual membership donations range from $85 to $250. LionBacker Athletic Forums, which serve as general meetings for all
interested parents, are held in August, November, February, and April.
Lovett International Alliance
The Lovett International Alliance is made up of Lovett families committed to
expanding international awareness by offering events and programs for the entire
community. The LIA serves as an educational resource for topics of global
interest and significance, as well as a social platform for families of
diverse backgrounds. The organization officially launched in the 2007-08
school year, and LIA membership is open to all
families. For more information, e-mail ehawkins@lovett.org.
Lovett Parent Association - Click to see the LPA webpage
The purpose of the Lovett
Parent Association is to foster interest among parents in support of The
Lovett School and to engage in activities promoting and assisting the
educational, religious, and physical development and enrichment of all
students. The LPA generates funds that provide enhancements beyond the
school budgets and provides volunteer services to enrich the overall life of
the school community. Leadership of the LPA is slated by committee from a
pool of parents who express interest through a self-nominating process in
January of each year. Annual dues are $35. General meetings are held in
September and in February.
Parent Annual Fund Committee
Working with all members of the school community, this committee works to ensure broad-based support for Lovett's most important fund-raising effort, the Annual Fund, which provides the
"extras" that make our school extraordinary. Volunteer activities include personal contacts,
phonathons, and mailings. For more information, email Phillip McEuen at pmceuen@lovett.org.
Parent Support Groups
Parent Support Groups are initiated by parents in Grades 5-12 seeking to
build relationships with other parents. Parents meet through informal
gatherings--often over a casual box lunch--three times a year, and all
parents in each grade level are notified and invited to attend. The
gatherings serve as outlets for open communication among parents; identify
grade-appropriate parenting issues; provide education and information that
assist parents in making informed decisions; and provide guest
speakers on pertinent topics. Parent Support Groups operate independently
of the school. Donations of $25 per family are appreciated to cover
expenses.
Room Parents/Prime Time Parents
Parents from each Lower and Middle School classroom are selected in the Lower School to serve as Room Parents
and in the Middle School to serve as Prime Time Parents. Parents may
volunteer for these positions in the spring of the preceding year. The
parents arrange for class parties, provide field trip drivers, and assist
with special activities and projects. They also serve as an important line
of communication between the home and the school. Room Parents ask for a $15 donation at the beginning of the school year to cover expenses.
