Adam Nelson '93 Wins USATF National Championship


Adam Nelson '93 won his fifth U.S. Track & Field Championship in the Shot Put, Sunday, June 26, in the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon. The winning throw of 72' 5.75" was more than three-fourths of a foot longer than his nearest competition, as only Nelson, and two other throwers, were over 70 feet with their best throws. The national championship adds to Nelson's stellar career, which also includes Olympic Silver Medals in 2000 and 2004. Other career highlights include: Two-time Olympic Trials champion (’00, ’04); 2005 World Outdoor champion; Three-time World Outdoor silver medalist (’01, ’02, '07); 2001 World Indoor silver medalist; USA Outdoor champion (‘00, ’02, ’04, ‘06, '11); Two-time USA Indoor champion (’01, ’02); 2005 USA Outdoor Champs runner-up; 2001 Goodwill Games gold medalist; 1997 NCAA champ; 1994 World Junior gold medalist; 2008 Indoor Visa Championship Series champion.
