Phase I of the Master Campus Plan

The campus of The Lovett School has changed many times in its long history: from an old home in Midtown Atlanta, to a quaint wooden building on West Wesley Road, to a "modern" campus on Paces Ferry Road--purchased for just $3,000 an acre! But at no time have the changes been quite as dramatic, or as positive, as they have during the last few years. Phase I of the Master Campus Plan significantly improved both the functionality and the appearance of The Lovett School.

Upper School, Loudermilk Student Activities Center

Located on the site of the school's old Student Activities Center, this 123,000 square-foot, three-story building houses an Upper School featuring state-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, and faculty resource centers. Adjoining the Upper School in this building is the Loudermilk Student Activities Center, containing a Campus Store, student lounge, The Lions Den Cafe, and Glover Gymnasium--forming a community center for Lovett's students. The building looks on to the Williams Plaza, a wonderful new gathering space.

Lower School

Recognizing the developmental differences among children, the 103,000 square-foot Lower School is separated into three divisions: Early Childhood (Kindergarten and Grade 1), Primary (Grades 2 and 3), and Elementary (Grades 4 and 5). Centrally located resource classrooms serve each division and facilitate cross-curriculum planning. The Dorothy Floyd Library, the Pope Gymnasium, and a science center are part of this wonderful new facility.

Mathis and Brooks Fields, Grounds, Utility Work, Parking

Phase I called for the consolidation of parking and the addition of sidewalks to make the campus more pedestrian-friendly. A three-story North Parking Deck occupies the site of the old "junior" parking lot, while the South Parking Lot was built on the hill across the pond from the Fuqua Center. The old "senior" parking lot was converted to the riverside Mathis Field, reclaiming more campus green space and allowing us to expand our athletics offerings (as did the new Brooks Field). Hidden, yet just as important, improvements include more efficient underground electrical conduits as well as new irrigation lines, storm drains, and pump and sanitary lift stations.

Physical Plant, Motor Pool

The former Preschool was renovated and adapted to house Physical Plant Operations, a move that allowed for the consolidation of maintenance functions, the motor pool, and central deliveries away from the campus core.
