As is the case with many independent schools, Lovett tuition covers only 77 percent of the school's annual operating costs. Gifts to the Annual Fund provide a portion of the additional 23 percent needed to sustain the school's commitment to providing each student with the high quality education for which Lovett is nationally recognized. While tuition  provides the foundation for excellence, gifts to the Annual Fund provide the "extras" that make our school extraordinary. Here are just a few of the many accomplishments that the 2007-08 Annual Fund gifts helped our students, faculty, and staff to achieve:

• In the Lower School, Spanish is being introduced, while in the fifth grade, social studies students are participating in a National Mock Election.
• The Middle School's single-gender classes have expanded to include sixth grade math and science, seventh grade math and English, and eighth grade math, science, and English.
• The Upper School curriculum has expanded to include Honors Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, African Studies, AP Chinese and Chinese V, A Comparative Study of Gender, Screenwriting/Playwriting, and Human Anatomy and Physiology.
• More than 90 percent of Lovett students participate in the Fine Arts program, while more than 300 fine arts students participate in Lovett's Applied Lessons program in piano, voice, band, and orchestral instruments.
• Grades 3-6 participate in an intramural athletic program, while students in grades 7-12 can take advantage of more than 65 competitive teams in 15 sports. The boys lacrosse and girls cross country teams won state championship titles last year, bringing the number of Lovett's state championships to 100. Two dozen seniors from the class of 2008 have college commitments to continue their sports.

The 2008-09 Annual Fund ends June 30, 2009.
