Friends of the Arts

Dear Friend of the Arts:

Friends of the Arts (FOTA) is the volunteer parent organization at Lovett whose mission is to support the students and faculty of the Fine Arts Department.  Every year hundreds of families and individuals become members of FOTA, volunteer in the arts classrooms, serve on various committees and attend performances, concerts and gallery shows.  Your membership donation allows you to partner with FOTA to advance and enhance the arts offerings at Lovett.  Membership in FOTA also automatically enrolls you as a recipient of the “FOTA Flash”, an email notification of upcoming Fine Arts events and news.  As a FOTA volunteer, you have the opportunity to work directly with Fine Arts faculty and students from Kindergarten to the Upper School.
       Director of Fine Arts Jay Freer and his faculty are working professionals who subscribe wholeheartedly to the vision of our school’s founder, Eva Edwards Lovett, who stressed the importance of developing the whole child – academically, athletically, socially, spiritually and artistically.  From the earliest days of Kindergarten, a Lovett student is exposed to and participates in a wide range of artistic offerings.  By the time a student graduates from Lovett, it is hoped that he or she will have developed a keen appreciation of the arts, perhaps even discovered a passion to pursue the arts as a profession.
        The College Board has put into words what supporters of the arts in schools have always known, “The actual practice of the arts can engage the imagination, foster flexible ways of thinking, develop disciplined effort, and build self-confidence….it will permanently enhance the quality of their lives, whether they continue artistic activity as an avocation or appreciation of the arts as observers and members of audiences.”
