The Lovett School is committed to admitting qualified students regardless of a family's ability to pay the full cost of tuition. All financial aid awards are based on a family's demonstrated need, and they are made available to students at any grade level.
In order to assess a family's demonstrated need, the Financial Aid Committee requests specific information including Federal Tax Returns from the previous year with all schedules and W-2s, and completion of a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS). The PFS is a part of the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), a service of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), which is used by Lovett and many other independent schools as a way of helping determine a family's level of need.
-
Timely submission of the Parents' Financial Statement and all tax returns is critical to the financial aid process. The committee is unable to grant financial assistance without the complete financial data and, because there are limited funds, late submission will jeopardize the possibility of financial aid for your child.
How is demonstrated need determined? Demonstrated need is defined as the difference between the tuition cost at Lovett and the recommended amount which a family is able to contribute towards the applicant's education in a given year. The Report of Financial Contribution (RFC) from SSS provides a recommendation of a family's ability to pay for education, after considering such factors as net income, assets, unusual expenses such as medical costs, number of dependents, and number of children attending tuition-charging educational institutions. In April, the committee will send the first round of decision letters based upon the evaluation of SSS, as well as our own analysis of the data submitted.
AAAIS Financial Aid Policies: As a member school of the Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS), Lovett does not provide financial awards for any reason other than demonstrated need, and awards may not exceed that need. AAAIS prohibits the use of scholarships for academic, athletic, or artistic merit and talent as recruitment tools.
