Academic Team

The Academic Team competes against high schools throughout the Southeastern United States. There are three levels of competition: Varsity (Grades 9-12), Junior Varsity (Grades 8-10), and Middle School (Grades 6-8). The team also competes in WSB-TV's High Q program. Competition involves everything one knows, from trivial pursuits to academic jeopardy.

Amateur Radio (Ham Radio)

The Amateur Radio Club made up of students with an interest in worldwide communication using radios and computers. The various modes of operation include Voice, CW (Morse code), TV, Satellites, Packet Radio, and APRS (GPS receiver, TNC radio modem and computer). The Radio Club meets weekly to operate the school's Amateur Radio Station (KF4OVF) and to prepare for the FCC Amateur Radio License exam. Club members are involved in various radio contests throughout the year.

Amigos Para Siempre

Amigos Para Siempre, which translates to "Friends Forever," provides an opportunity for students who have traveled to Siempre Verde to keep in touch with the people of Intag and continue with service projects and fundraising for the Rio Cenepa school in Santa Rosa. The club also allows students who haven't been to Ecuador yet to get involved with the Siempre Verde program and learn more about the social and environmental issues facing the region.

Asian Culture

The Asian Culture Club is dedicated to exploring the rich history, literature, food, art and cultural traditions of Asia -- 60% of the world's population. This year we plan on learning Chinese calligraphy, eating exotic food, learning some Chinese/Japanese/Korean language, and watching films. We may even go on a field trip to the local Buddhist Temple, take a two-day wilderness retreat, or host exchange students from a Beijing high school.

The Creative Writing Club is open to all students interested in writing, presenting, and appreciating student-generated fiction and poetry. The Creative Writing Club grants students a chance to share their creative writing with a supportive, friendly peer audience in a relaxed, informal environment. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a Christian organization aimed at strengthening and motivating athletes and non-athletes in their Christian life. FCA sponsors a time of singing and fellowship each Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. in the aerobics room of the Wallace Gym with breakfast provided, and involves its members in service work.

Lovett hosts a campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and joins with four other area high schools in building a house for a needy, hard-working family in the Atlanta area. The Latin students participate in various academic contests designed to promote the study of classics. These contests include the Georgia Junior Classical League Convention, the National Latin Exam, and the FLAG competitions. In addition, members participate in International Week activities with members of the other foreign language clubs. Members also help to promote and/or participate in an annual trip to Italy during spring break.

The Origami Club meets once every seven-day rotation during lunch to explore the art of paper folding. The main projects of the year are creating Christmas ornaments and Valentine’s Day flowers, which are then sold and distributed to lockers in the Upper School. We also do community service, like teaching origami to students at the AGAPE center, at different points throughout the year. No experience is require to join this club. Meetings: once every seven-day rotation during lunch for about 25 minutes.

The Speech and Debate Team is the right activity for those who like the challenge of speaking or performing! In addition to the Lincoln-Douglas debate, other categories of competition include speaking, dramatic performance, duo performance, impromptu, and extemporaneous. All-day competitions are held Fridays and Saturdays in schools around the Atlanta area, and the team travels together on "road trips." Meetings are Wednesdays after school.

STiLT

The mission of the Student Technology Leadership Team (STiLT) is to provide technological support and to promote responsible use of online resources for the Lovett community: students, teachers, administration, and parents.
Student support includes a variety of resources: a Facebook group called "Lovett STiLT", open to any students who wish to join; an online help desk at the STiLT Answers website; and the Lovett Google Video platform, where STiLT members help maintain a library of searchable How To... video clips. STiLT also helps to educate the student body about issues related to digital citizenship and advises the administration and various Student Life groups, such as PAL, SGA, Student Service Board, and clubs, in this capacity.
Faculty support is provided in the form of scheduled consultation, impromptu help, and the Lovett Google Video platform. STiLT's role in teacher support is in addition to that offered by the Educational Technology Department and IT.
STiLT also hopes to reach out to Lovett's parent community to help them navigate and understand the digital lives of their children.
STiLT will also look for opportunities to help the broader Lovett family by coordinating with Service Learning activities.

What is the best thing about being a girl? What makes girls unique? Have you ever been hurt by gossip? Do your girlfriends ever say things that are kind of mean and nasty and then say “just kidding?” Has a friend ever posted something hurtful or untrue about you online? Are there times you feel like you have to be totally fake to be accepted? Through monthly meetings, T.G.I.F. challenges 9th and 10th grade girls to ask, answer and find solutions to questions and quandaries such as these. By talking to each other, the girls discover the many ways they are alike as well as the issues/problems they may have in common.

Vestry

The Upper School Vestry is a student religious organization. Led by the senior chaplain, faculty advisors, and student officers, the Vestry carries out several functions. Vestry members (along with other interested students) help to plan weekly chapel services and choose charitable causes for chapel offerings. A Missions Projects Committee organizes local community service opportunities, including the annual Cabbagetown project. An annual overnight retreat is held at a camp for the purposes of spiritual growth, fellowship, and fun. Students of any religious persuasion or denomination are welcome to be part of the Vestry.
