This year tickets are required for The Lovett School Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
Lovett prints only announcements of its graduation ceremony and not invitations to the ceremony. We understand that families may have sent the announcement to a far wider list of persons than they wish to be physically present at the ceremony. While that is acceptable, please note that each senior's family was allotted up to eight tickets and that any family members and guests attending Commencement Exercises must present a ticket for admittance. An announcement will not suffice.

Dress for the Commencement Exercises
Lovett has a long tradition of attire for graduation day. Please be sure that your student follows these guidelines. The requirements are as follows:
Boys—blue blazer, white shirt, senior tie, light to medium gray slacks, dark dress shoes. (Make sure blazer fits.) CORRECT SENIOR TIE.
Girls—
- Dress: white (not cream, off white, or any other variation); no more than 2” above knee, appropriate coverage in front and back, befitting-not revealing, no see-through fabric. Shoulder straps must be at least 1” wide. Dress and sweater/bolero combinations are fine.
- No colored accessories, sashes, hair ornaments, etc. No hats.
- Appropriate undergarments for white fabrics and bright lights. (The lights at the church are very bright and quite intense. Be mindful of this when choosing fabrics and undergarments.)
- Shoes: all white, reasonable heel (or none), must have back or back strap. Scuff soles and practice walking before graduation day. (Be mindful that the girl will be descending highly varnished, slick steps, with no rails, and with hands full.)
- Jewelry white and modest. Pearls are very appropriate.

To Seniors and Senior Parents:
I will be assembling a video slide show presentation that will be shown at our Senior Dinner in May, and each student will receive a copy. In order to represent the entire class, I need your help! So start going through your pictures now!
Here’s what we need:
- 5-10 pictures per student, more if you think they are fabulous, on a flash drive or CD only- no hard copies will be accepted, and media will not be returned. You may also email pictures to me as long as it’s in PC friendly jpg format. Not all the pictures will be used, and we will get lots of duplicates and lots of similar shots. Everyone who turns in pictures will be included in the video. If you don’t turn in any pictures, you might not make it on the DVD!
- No baby pictures or family pictures, but pictures from the early years at Lovett are great. And this is all about the students, so we don’t really need family pictures.
- Group pictures are wonderful, especially small groups where faces are clearly visible!
- Different events, not just prom and football games, although we do want some of those! Think about all the elements of Lovett that you are involved in- sports, drama, music, etc.
- Any pictures of favorite memories or favorite events from Lovett. Senior events are especially great! But how about the 8th grade trip to Washington, DC? Or 5th grade graduation? Lower school chapel and being an acolyte? JOE, Spring break, Sempre Verde, Lovett mission trips- try to have some variety.
- The deadline is April 18! This is after prom, but please try not to go crazy with the prom pictures. If we have time, we will try to get some last minute pictures from the senior jump into the pond, but that may be pushing it.
So start gathering your pictures! You can send your media to LeeAnn Young, 3015 Paces Lake Ct. Atlanta, GA 30339. I will also be putting a big envelope of box in the senior lounge. Thanks!
The deadline for senior ads in the yearbook is October 31. For more information, contact Perry McIntyre, yearbook advisor, at (404) 262-3032, ext. 1971, or pmac@lovett.org.

Lovett prints only announcements of its graduation ceremony and not invitations to the ceremony. The announcement contains all the same wording as an invitation, including date, time, place, etc., but uses the word “announces” instead of “invites.” We understand that seniors’ families will send the announcement to a far wider list of persons than they wish to be physically present at the ceremony, and that invitations for physical presence (limited to eight) will be made by some other means.
Please be sure to order announcements, envelopes (one set is sufficient), and name cards. We do not recommend ordering tissue or double envelopes.
Your senior was given a packet for ordering her/his announcements on January 11, and the deadline for submitting the order, either by hard copy to Burl Salmon or online, is Friday, January 27. Please be aware that orders placed after the deadline will incur additional charges.
Graduation announcements will be distributed outside the Woodward Theater at lunch on March 27. If you ordered announcements by the deadline, your announcements will be here. If you ordered after the deadline, your announcements will be shipped to your home that next week.
