Student Activities

Class unity, service, and enjoyment are the guiding principles of Lower School student activities. Throughout the year, each grade is involved in supporting a community organization.

The Lower School Student Service Council (SSC) includes students in Grades 3-5. Participation is voluntary. SSC members meet occasionally during the year to plan and carry out service projects in the Atlanta community. In addition to aluminum can drives and other projects, the SSC works in collaboration with the Upper School group Confronting Atlanta's Poverty (CAP) to support their year-long sack lunch project. There are approximately 120 SSC members.

Past SSC activities have included:

  • Collection of warm clothes, blankets, and hygiene kits (items generally not available in shelters, such as shampoo, soap, lotion, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and lip balm) to distribute to people who are homeless
  • Collection of old blankets and towels for the Atlanta Humane Society
  • Aluminum can drives, with proceeds going to Canine Assistants, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the American Red Cross.

Pride

Pride is a volunteer organization of fifth graders whose sole responsibility is the meeting and greeting of parents and students during morning carpool. The students are divided into groups of five, and serve for one week at a time several times throughout the year.

Third Grade Fun Night

Third Grade Fun night will be Friday, September 9, 2011, from 5:30-8:30 pm. Third graders go to Sparkles for a roller skating party and then come to Lovett for swimming and a pizza party.
