The Lovett School College Counseling Office follows a systematic approach to working with students from each grade of the Upper School, with a primary focus, however, on the junior and senior year.
In 9th grade, college applications are a long way off, but students should be laying a strong foundation. In 10th grade, the most important thing is for students to challenge themselves with rigorous courses and continue the extracurricular activities started as a freshman, even while exploring new interests. In 11th grade, rigor of courseload and grades really count, with colleges often weighing junior and senior year grades more heavily than freshman and sophomore grades. And 12th grade is the time for students to work closely with their college counselors on making applications to the colleges that are right for them.
