STUDENT NEWS:
1. LOWER SCHOOL SPIRIT NIGHT! Join your friends at the basketball games against Buford on Friday, Feb. 12. The girl’s tip-off is at 5:30 followed by the boys. Basketball Bingo with candy prizes for all! Third graders are invited onto the court to participate in a flag game at half-time of the boy’s game. Stan Jones DJs tunes for all to enjoy! Free admission for LS kids and the parents accompanying them! Wear your Lovett Blue and get ready to cheer your Lions on to victory – Lower School style!!

3. Friday is a Valentine’s Red, Pink & White NUD. (Sneakers to be worn)

1. Black History Month Speaker & Opening Art Reception, TODAY, Tues., 2/9 at 7:00.
2. FOTA (Friends of the Arts) LS Grocery Tote Project will be taking orders through Feb. 28.
3. LPA – Lower School Spring Forum – Thurs., 2/11 – 6:30 PM
4. The Upper School Musical “Oklahoma” is only 2 weeks away. There are 3 performances at 7:00 p.m., Thursday – Saturday. There is reserved seating, so everyone needs a ticket, but they’re free for students, faculty & staff. All others, $8.00. Tickets are available in Fine Arts.
Fun Facts: The odds of being struck by lightning are about 600,000 to one.

4. The US Musical--OKLAHOMA is only 2 weeks away. Three performances at 7:00 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, February 18, 19, 20, in the theater. 5. Need to make some room in your closet - Hand down your out grown summer clothes to the children in Haiti. A Summer Clothes Drive for Haiti is going on in the Middle School beginning Monday, February 8, through Friday, February 26. Collection boxes are located on each floor outside the science rooms. 6. Green Cup Challenge ~ January 25 - February 22
Help our school to beat out Westminster and Pace by saving the most in energy costs over a one month period. Here are ways that you can help:
1. Turn off lights when you leave the classroom;
2. Turn off computers;
3. Turn off projectors; and
4. Keep outside doors closed to save on heating costs.
Schools all across the country are participating. Let's win the Green Cup Challenge this year!

KIDS WHO CARE AWARDS
• The annual Kids Who Care Awards are given each year to five Atlanta area students who have a special commitment to helping solve a societal problem (cannot be a school program or club). Finalists receive a cash prize an recognition at a special awards event. If you would like to be nominated, please see Mrs. Morris-Long.YOUTH EXPO AND LUNCHEON
• The Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity invite students to take part in a youth exposition and luncheon on February 18, at Morehouse College. The event is a part of a Department of Defense outreach initiative, "Reaching Out to Youth: A Strategy for Excellence." The event is free. Participants will view presentations from civil service professionals and service academy and ROTC cadets, tour exhibits, and enjoy a luncheon commemorating African American History Month. • Interested in becoming a Volunteen at Grady or Northside Hospitals this summer? Applications are here, and deadlines are in mid-February. These positions usually fill up quickly. See Mrs. Morris-Long for more information.
• ActionQuest (focused on travel and adventure) and Lifeworks (focused on community service) are trips offered in 38 states and 19 foreign countries. ActionQuest is run primarily aboard sailing vessels and offers leadership and water sports certification program. Lifeworks is mainly land-based and includes up to 100 hours of service work. Trips range from 17 – 28 days. www.actionquest.com
• Lewis and Clark College will offer its Fir Acres Workshop in Thinking and Writing, June 27 – July 9, on the campus in Portland, Oregon. The program allows students to explore the relationship between writing, thinking, and learning. www.lclark.eduCOLLEGE COUNSELING
